G3-PLC Alliance Announces First Certified Platforms for CENELEC B
G3-PLC is serving a strong and growing global market. Millions of G3-PLC products are in the field, mass roll-out is ongoing in multiple countries and numerous pilots are being conducted around the world. The G3-PLC certification program started in 2014 and now already more than 200 devices have been certified for CENELEC A, FCC and ARIB bandplan. Now the G3-PLC Alliance announces the achievement of the first certifications for CENELEC B platforms.
Marc Delandre, G3-PLC Alliance General Secretary, says, “Driven by applications in smart railways, we have also opened certification for CENELEC B recently. I am very proud to announce we now have certified the first two chipsets. I want to congratulate STMicroelectronics and Renesas for their CENELEC B certification and thank our test laboratories for their support! More chipsets and products from these and other vendors will follow soon.”
Interoperability for CENELEC B has been proven during a plugfest, and the certification program has been updated to include specific tests for this bandplan. Applications in smart railways include, among others, monitoring power consumption of heating cables, remote control of switches, and monitoring & control of utilities, as well as railway tunnel safety applications.
The certification process is open for all current and future members of the G3-PLC Alliance. Certification covers chipsets and a wide range of G3-PLC products including Meters, Data Concentrators, Home Energy Management Systems and now lighting and heating control systems manufactured by the members of the G3-PLC Alliance.
The G3-PLC Certification Program covers conformance, interoperability and performance testing. Products that have been awarded with the G3-PLC Certificate are conform to the G3-PLC specifications, are interoperable with other G3-PLC certified devices and fulfill defined performance requirements. An overview of all certified products can be found on the G3-PLC website: http://www.g3-plc.com/certified-products-platforms/.
The G3-PLC Alliance has accredited two experienced laboratories to run the certifications tests, LAN and TÜV Rheinland:
- LAN is a French company. Certification testing is performed in their facilities located in Tauxigny, France.
- TÜV Rheinland is a German company with worldwide offices. TÜV Rheinland performs the certification
testing in their facilities in Yokohama, Japan.
G3-PLC is a protocol for narrow band low frequency powerline communications. G3-PLC facilitates high-speed, highly-reliable, long-range communication over the existing powerline grid. With the ability to cross transformers, infrastructure costs are reduced and with its support of IPv6, G3-PLC will support powerline communications into the future.
About the G3-PLC Alliance
The G3-PLC Alliance was formed in order to support, promote and implement G3-PLC in smart grid applications. Its members come from the key stakeholders in the smart grid ecosystem. The objectives of the G3-PLC Alliance consortium are to support G3-PLC in internationally recognized standards bodies to achieve the rapid adoption of G3-PLC specification worldwide and to develop a framework for equipment testing to facilitate interoperability
