Landis+Gyr proves G3 PLC technology is right fit for smart metering
Successful field tests prove the technology’s promise
Zug, Switzerland – May 20th, 2015 – Landis+Gyr, a global leader in supplying energy management solutions, is extending its portfolio to include a smart metering solution that runs on G3 PLC technology. The technology provides the ability to host robust and high-performing energy management solutions that are cost and resource effective – and which contribute to enabling the smart grid and the smart home of the future.

Landis+Gyr brings G3 PLC Smart Metering to Austria

10th June, 2015 ,Vienna, Austria and Zug, Switzerland, - A leading Austrian utility, Netz Burgenland Strom, selects Landis+Gyr for the supply and roll-out of smart electricity meters utilizing cutting-edge G3 Power Line Communication technology

Landis+Gyr, a global leader in supplying energy management solutions, will supply its smart metering solution, Gridstream™ which will run on G3 PLC technology to Netz Burgenland Strom. The agreement includes the supply of infrastructure for the utility’s head-end-system, which enables the utility to remotely read all meters in its network.

Netz Burgenland Strom is one of the seven largest electricity Distribution System Operators in Austria and has more than 200,000 metering points in its network. It awarded Landis+Gyr the contract following a pan-European tender. Under the terms of the agreement, the first 3,000 meters will be installed in late 2015. The next roll-out step, comprising 20,000 further devices, is planned for 2016, with the full meter park to be replaced with smart meters by 2019.

G3-PLC technology fit for the roll-out: Extensive pilot test completed successfully in the metropolitan cities of Berlin and Hamburg

August 11th, 2015, Berlin, Germany – devolo, Vattenfall Metering and the two network operators Stromnetz Berlin and Stromnetz Hamburg see positive results from their joint pilot test. The four companies tested G3 Powerline technology for WAN (wide area network) communication in the smart grid. For this test, five network areas in the two cities were equipped with 1,000 G3-PLC modems from devolo. This was the largest test of G3 Powerline technology to date. The use of the frequency band between 150 and 500 kHz has proven itself to be a key advantage. The G3-PLC modem 500k from devolo made an impressive showing in the crucial areas of bandwidth and network coverage. The partners also decided to continue joint development of the smart grid in the future. Download press release
